Paul Vincent Collins, born in 1956 in New York, is an American writer, author, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is renowned for his contributions to power pop music, particularly through his involvement in the influential groups The Nerves, The Breakaways, and The Beat (later known as The Paul Collins Beat to distinguish it from the UK band The Beat). Collins, encouraged by his friend Dee Dee Ramone of The Ramones, began recording new material in the 1990s with a re-formed version of The Beat. In 2023, Paul Collins Beat released a new studio album titled “Ribbon Of Gold,” following their critically acclaimed 2007 album “Flying High.” Additionally, they are offering a new album, “Live In Europe,” as a free full-length CD and DVD video album audio download via their official website. In 1974, Collins founded the legendary rock band The Nerves with Peter Case and Jack Lee. The Nerves self-funded their recordings, toured with The Ramones, and released the hit song “Hanging On The Telephone,” which has been covered by artists such as Cat Power, Def Leppard, and Blondie on their “Parallel Lines” album. After The Nerves disbanded in 1977, Collins formed The Beat, bringing together members from various rock bands.
