Paul Gayten was an American rhythm and blues bandleader, pianist, record company executive, producer, and songwriter, born on January 29, 1920, in Kentwood, Louisiana. He passed away on March 26, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, due to bleeding ulcers. In the 1940s, Gayten led one of the most popular orchestras in New Orleans and had a diverse career in the music industry, serving as a producer, label owner, and overseeing the West Coast operations of Chess Records. He was also the nephew of a notable figure in the music scene.
