Paul Misraki (January 28, 1908 - October 29, 1998) was a renowned French composer known for his contributions to popular music and film scores. Born Paul Misrachi in Constantinople, Turkey, into a French Jewish family of Italian descent, he displayed a talent for music from an early age. Misraki moved to Paris to study classical composition and became an established jazz pianist, arranger, and songwriter by the 1930s. His film scoring career began with Jean Renoir's first sound film, "On purge bébé," for which he was uncredited. During World War II, Misraki fled France and, after a brief stay in Argentina, settled in Hollywood, composing music for all of Renoir's American films. After the war, he returned to France and was prolific throughout the 1950s, scoring numerous films, including works by Yves Allégret, Jean Boyer, Jacques Becker, and Orson Welles. In the 1960s, Misraki's output slowed to 2-3 scores a year, collaborating with prominent directors like Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Pierre Melville, and Claude Chabrol. He continued to compose intermittently in the last two decades of his life, with his final score completed at the age of 85. Misraki passed away from natural causes at the age of 90 in Paris, leaving behind a legacy of over 130 film scores and a significant impact
