Peetie Wheatstraw, also known as The Devil's Son In Law and The High Sheriff of Hellborn, was an American blues pianist, guitarist, and singer. He was born on December 21, 1902, in either Ripley, Tennessee, or Cotton Plant, Arkansas. Tragically, Wheatstraw passed away on December 21, 1941, in East St. Louis, Illinois, due to a car accident when the vehicle he was in collided with a standing freight train on his 39th birthday. At the time of his untimely death, he was enjoying the height of his success. In recognition of his contributions to music, Wheatstraw was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2008.
