Penny Goodwin is a talented jazz vocalist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who began her musical journey singing in church alongside Al Jarreau. She performed at weddings, talent competitions, and bar mitzvahs before making her way to popular clubs such as Alfie's, Sardino's, and King's Four. Her career progressed to performances in Chicago and at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Despite her immense talent, only one studio LP was released, featuring a mix of covers by Marvin Gaye and Gil Scott-Heron, along with original songs by herself and her manager, Sy Lefco. The album also includes orchestral arrangements by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and jazz guitar legend Phil Upchurch, solidifying her status as one of the great American jazz vocalists and Milwaukee's unsung queen of jazz.
