People Under the Stairs was an American hip hop group from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1997 and disbanded in 2019. The group consisted solely of Christopher Portugal (Thes One) and Michael Turner (Double K). Known for their DIY work ethic, they engaged in sampling, MCing, DJing, and producing all of their output. Despite facing challenges in achieving mainstream or chart success, they rejected the label of being an "underground" group and garnered notoriety and praise from fellow musicians.
