**Perfect Vision** (1980-1986) was a post-punk band based in Cambridge, known for their innovative blend of new electronic technologies with guitar-driven sounds, funky bass lines, and strong male vocals from two distinct singers. The band described their style as "Indie" with a sound reminiscent of Depeche Mode, but incorporating guitars alongside synths. Formed by members of The Students and local musicians Giles Thomas and Steve Xerri, Perfect Vision initially dropped a live drummer in favor of a reel-to-reel backing track featuring drum machine patterns and synth parts. The band was highly prolific, having written and demoed around 82 songs by the time of their debut vinyl release. They released a series of cassette and vinyl formats between 1983 and 1986 but eventually disbanded as members pursued different career opportunities. Their debut vinyl release, "... Our Broken Crown...", gained national recognition when played by John Peel on his late-night Radio 1 show. Notable moments in their career included a radio session produced by John Owen Williams at the BBC's Maida Vale V studio, a performance during the John Peel curated ICA Rock Week, and the "This Hook" video being featured in a nationally broadcast episode of the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test.
