Pete Rugolo was a Sicilian-born jazz composer and arranger, born on December 25, 1915, in San Piero Patti, Sicily, Italy. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1920. Rugolo is best known for his music for numerous U.S. television programs during the 1960s and 1970s. He was one of the most prolific arrangers for Stan Kenton’s orchestras from 1945 to 1949 and later became the music director for a popular music program in 1949, where he continued to produce a significant number of arrangements. Throughout his career, he arranged music for various artists and worked extensively in television, contributing to shows such as "Leave It to Beaver," "M*A*S*H," "Alias Smith and Jones," and "Fantasy Island," among others. Between 1953 and 1961, while at Capitol Records, Rugolo recorded over 10 LPs and EPs, collaborating with the singer June Christy, with whom he had previously worked during his time with Kenton. He passed away on October 16, 2011, in Sherman Oaks, California.
