Pete Townshend is a British guitarist, composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and author, born on May 19, 1945, in Chiswick, West London, England. He is best known for his more-than 50-year association with the rock band The Who, where he serves as co-founder, leader, principal songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist. Townshend established and owned a series of six home studios and unveiled several companies under the umbrella of Eel Pie in the early 1970s, which included studios in Twickenham, London. He sold these studios in 2008. Throughout his career, Townshend has received numerous accolades, including the Brit Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1983 and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Who in 1990. He won a Grammy Award in 1994 for Best Musical Show Album and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, along with the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement the same year. He is the son of a notable family and the oldest brother of his siblings. Townshend married Karen Astley on May 20, 1968, becoming the son-in-law of another notable figure and brother-in-law to several others.
