Peter Baumann is a German electronic musician, label owner, and founder, born on January 29, 1953, in Berlin. At the age of 18, he applied for a position as a keyboardist with Tangerine Dream, despite not playing synthesizer at the time, and was accepted. His influence helped make synthesizers a dominant element in Tangerine Dream's music during his tenure from 1971 to 1977, during which he toured worldwide and contributed to multiple Gold records. In 1977, Baumann left the group due to differences in musical goals and embarked on a solo career. He owned a record label from 1984 to 1996 that specialized in instrumental music. In 2009, he became the head of the Baumann Institute, which focuses on exploring awareness and its relationship to health and well-being. In June 2015, he officially rejoined Tangerine Dream, working on projects with the late member Edgar Froese, but left the band again in December 2015.
