Peter Christopherson was a writer, producer, video director, visual artist, renowned remixer, and a founding member of the influential groups Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. He was also a long-time member of the band Coil. Born on February 27, 1955, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, he grew up in a large family in Wimbledon and later in Durham. Peter attended Chorister School and a Quaker co-ed boarding school at Ackworth. After completing his A levels in sciences, he briefly studied fiction writing, computer programming, theater design, and video at the State University of New York in Buffalo. Upon returning to London in the summer of 1974, Peter began working with the design team Hipgnosis, starting as a junior assistant before becoming a joint partner. After Hipgnosis disbanded in 1982, he became a full partner in Greenback Films alongside Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell. In March 1974, Peter attended a performance by COUM Transmission, where he befriended Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti. By March 1975, he was performing with the group, and in September of that year, he joined Chris Carter to form Throbbing Gristle.
