Peter Garland (born January 25, 1952, in Portland, Maine) is a composer renowned for founding Soundings Press, a prominent publisher of new music scores and articles. A student of James Tenney and Harold Budd, Garland's work is often categorized as post-minimal, with notable pieces like "The Days Run Away" (1971) created during the early 1970s alongside the emergence of minimalist music. He is also recognized for his expertise in American Indian music and the works of Silvestre Revueltas. Garland began his Soundings Press series in 1971 after participating in a publishing workshop with Dick Higgins at CalArts. He is the author of "Gone Walkabout: Essays 1991-."
