Peter Herbolzheimer was a German-Romanian band leader, composer, arranger, trombonist, and guitarist, born on December 31, 1935, in Bucharest, Romania. He immigrated to West Germany in 1951, where he learned to play the guitar. After completing his school-leaving examination in the USA in 1953, he returned to Germany in 1957 to study in Nuremberg. By 1960, he began performing in US clubs and radio bands. In 1969, he founded an all-star big band. He received the Bundesverdienstkreuz, a German national award, in 1972 for his opening music for the Olympic Games. In 1981, he became the leader of the SWF Big Band. Peter Herbolzheimer passed away on March 27, 2010, in Cologne, Germany, at the age of 74.
