Peter Metro, born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1960, is a renowned reggae toaster and the brother of another artist. Initially performing under the name Peter Ranking, he changed his name to Peter Metro after discovering that another deejay was using the same name. He chose "Metro" as he was the resident deejay on the Metromedia sound system. His incorporation of Spanish into his performances garnered him a significant fan base in South America, making him recognized as the first multilingual reggae toaster. Throughout the early to mid-1980s, Metro maintained a high profile through his collaborations with Yellowman and Fathead on albums such as "Yellowman, Fathead, and the one Peter Metro" (1982) and "Live With Yellowman and Sassafrass" (1984). He showcased his talent at the Reggae Sunsplash festival in 1987 alongside English deejay Dominic, which was captured on the "Reggae Sunsplash Dancehall X '87" recording. In 1989, he featured as a guest on the CD "Bora Bora" by the Brazilian rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso, performing the songs "The Can" and "Don't Give Me That," the latter being an anti-cocaine statement referencing Richard Pryor's mishap with crack in 1980.
