Peter Nero was an American pianist and conductor, born on May 22, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York. He began piano lessons at the age of seven and displayed remarkable natural talent, memorizing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D Major by age eleven. As a teenager, he performed at local engagements. In 1960, he signed a three-year contract with RCA Victor records, which was later renewed for five years, resulting in the release of more than 26 albums. He won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1961 for his debut album and received another Grammy the following year. Nero served as the director of the Philly Pops from 1979 to 2013. He passed away on July 6, 2023, in Eustis, Florida.
