Peter Schilling
Peter Schilling is a German pop singer born on January 28, 1956, in Stuttgart, Germany. He gained fame in the early '80s with his synth pop hit "Major Tom (Coming Home)," released in 1983, which is a retelling of David Bowie's classic "Space Oddity." This song became Schilling's first and only entry in the U.S. charts, leading to his reputation as a one-hit wonder in America. His debut album, "Error in the System," was also released in 1983. "Major Tom (Coming Home)" achieved worldwide success and received significant airplay on MTV, but Schilling struggled to replicate this success in subsequent years. In 1989, he collaborated with Michael Crétu from Enigma on "Different Story (World of Lust and Crime)" in an effort to modernize his sound and return to the American charts. In 1994, a techno version of "Major Tom" was released and gained popularity in clubs. A year later, Schilling formed the group Space Pilots with Catyana Schilling, J. Feifel, and P. Magnet, and they recorded "Trip to Orion."
