Philip Catherine is a Belgian jazz guitarist born on October 27, 1942, in London, England, to an English mother and a Belgian father. Coming from a musical family—his grandfather was the first violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra—he developed a keen musical ear from an early age. He began playing guitar after being inspired by George Brassens and soon immersed himself in the works of prominent jazz musicians of the time. Since the 1960s, he has been a significant figure in the European jazz scene, collaborating with numerous renowned musicians and even a rock group. His unique sound, dedication to music, and emotionally expressive playing have made him an influential presence in the genre.
