Philip Cohran was an American musician, composer, educator, and activist, known for his contributions to jazz and African American music. He was born on March 8, 1927, in Mississippi and later moved to Chicago, where he became a prominent figure in the city's music scene. Cohran was a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra and played a significant role in the development of the avant-garde jazz movement. He was also known for his work in promoting African culture and heritage through music.
