Phương Tâm, born Nguyễn Thị Tâm in 1945 in Quảng Bình, Vietnam, is a notable singer who emerged as one of the first rock and roll performers and recording artists in 1960s Vietnam. By the age of 19, she was sharing album covers and marquees with some of Saigon’s most popular singers, musicians, and composers. Her peak years were from 1964 to 1966, after which she faded into obscurity for over 50 years. During this time, she married a doctor and raised three children, living a suburban life in San José. Recently, with the encouragement of her oldest daughter, Hannah Hà, Phương Tâm, now 77, has reclaimed her identity as Vietnam’s first rock-and-roll queen.
