Piero Umiliani was an Italian composer born on July 17, 1926, in Florence, Italy. He passed away on February 14, 2001, in Rome, Italy. Umiliani was known for his work in film scores and library music, having composed and recorded 190 soundtracks, 40 library albums, and 35 TV title themes throughout his career. He gained international recognition in 1959 for his score for "I Soliti Ignoti" (Big Deal on Madonna Street), which featured Chet Baker on trumpet and marked a significant moment in Italian comedy film music. Umiliani is perhaps best known for his song "Mah Nà Mah Nà," originally featured in the 1968 Mondo documentary "Svezia, Inferno e Paradiso," which became widely popular after being performed on The Muppet Show in 1977 and also served as an anthem for The Benny Hill Show. He composed scores for numerous exploitation films in the 1960s and 1970s, covering various genres such as spaghetti westerns, Eurospy films, Giallo, and soft sex films. In 1970, he founded Liuto Edizioni Musicali, his own publishing company and recording studio, where he released "Svezia, Inferno e Paradiso," which contained his biggest hit.
