Piledriver is a thrash metal project from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that was formed in 1984. Initially, Piledriver was not a traditional band; it was a metalploitation project created in the studio by the manager of the record company. The first two albums, "Metal Inquisition" and "Stay Ugly," were recorded with completely different musicians, with vocalist Gord Kirchin being the only constant in the project. The music on "Metal Inquisition" was written by a pseudonymous songwriter and another pseudonymous musician. Gord Kirchin took over the vocal duties, while Leslie Howe played all instruments under various pseudonyms. All members credited on this release were not real. For the second album, "Stay Ugly," the music was written by different pseudonymous songwriters. The "band" for this release included Gord Kirchin, Edward Pursino, and others, but again, all credited members were not real. Cobra Records, the label behind Piledriver, produced several other projects in a similar manner, involving David DeFeis and Edward Pursino, as well as Gord Kirchin in other projects. In 2005, Kirchin reactivated a real band based on Piledriver material.
