Pink Floyd was an English rock band formed in London in late 1965. The group gained worldwide acclaim for their innovative psychedelic music and later became a cornerstone of the progressive rock genre. Known for their philosophical lyrics, musical experimentation, and elaborate live shows, Pink Floyd remains one of the most commercially successful and influential bands in the history of popular music. The main official members of the band included individuals who played bass guitar, drums, keyboards, and guitar, with various members contributing to vocals and sound effects throughout the years. The band experienced several lineup changes and had a number of pre-Pink Floyd members who contributed to the group's early formation. Before adopting the name Pink Floyd, the band went through several name changes, including Sigma 6, The Meggadeaths, and The Tea Set, among others. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 as performers. The group's name was inspired by both Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, paying tribute to the American blues music they admired.
