Pixinguinha (April 23, 1897 – February 17, 1973) was a Brazilian composer, arranger, flutist, and saxophonist, recognized as one of the most significant figures in choro music. He began his career at the age of 14 in 1911, playing the flute. His innovative compositions and arrangements fused African rhythms with European harmonic influences, laying the groundwork for Brazilian popular music. As a member of a group, he played a key role in popularizing choro beyond Brazil, introducing jazz-inspired harmonies and orchestration techniques in his arrangements. Some of his most celebrated works include "Carinhoso" and "Lamentos," which remain standards in Brazilian music. Pixinguinha’s legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians in Brazil and around the world.
