Pizzicato Five was a Japanese pop group formed in 1985, originally consisting of Yasuharu Konishi, Keitarō Takanami, Ryō Kamomiya, Mamiko Sasaki, and Shigeo Miyata. Following Miyata's departure shortly after formation, the remaining members retained the group's name. The duo of Yasuharu Konishi and Maki Nomiya became best known to Western audiences, with Konishi being the only founding member to remain until the group's disbandment in 2001. Yasuharu Konishi (born February 3, 1959, in Sapporo, Hokkaido) served as the songwriter, playing bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, and providing vocals. He is currently a music producer. Maki Nomiya (born March 12, 1960, in Kushiro, Hokkaido) joined the group in 1990 as the lead vocalist and is also known as a solo singer, narrator, fashion model, and dress designer. Former members included Keitarō Takanami (1984–1994), who played guitar, keyboards, and provided vocals, and later became a music producer. Mamiko Sasaki was the group's first lead vocalist from 1984 to 1987. Ryō Kamomiya, also a founding member, played keyboards until 1987 and is now a composer and arranger.
