PJ Harvey, born Polly Jean Harvey on 9 October 1969 in Bridport, Dorset, England, is an English musician and singer-songwriter. She began her career in 1988 as a vocalist, guitarist, and saxophone player for a Bristol band. In January 1991, after leaving the band, Harvey formed her own trio, naming it "PJ Harvey" after rejecting several other names that did not fit her vision. The trio consisted of Harvey on vocals and guitars, with former bandmates on drums and backing vocals, and bass. The original bassist later left to rejoin Automatic Dlamini and was replaced. The band released two albums: one in 1992 and another in 1993. Their final tour was in support of an unnamed act in August 1993, after which the trio officially disbanded. Following this, PJ Harvey began recording music solo under the same name.
