Richie Hawtin, known by his main recording identity Plastikman, has been a significant figure in electronic music since his debut as States of Mind and FUSE in 1990. He launched the Plastikman project in 1993, evolving his sound from early acidic techno and high-energy tracks like 'Spastik' (1993) to more experimental sonic landscapes found in his 1998 LP 'Consumed.' His minimalistic approach was showcased in the year-long 12-record project 'Concept 1' in 1996. Hawtin's innovative DJ performances utilize turntables, effects processors, and instruments like the Roland TR-909 drum machine and SH-101 synthesizer. His enhanced DJ set-up, particularly the DE9 series, has pushed the boundaries of creativity in DJing through technology. On March 27, 2010, at Timewarp, Hawtin launched the first date of the inaugural Plastikman Live world tour. This live electronic performance features state-of-the-art visual architecture and interactive technology, evolving from his previous performance at Canada's Mutek festival in 2004. The new show continues to explore the interplay between visual art, audio, and interactivity, collaborating with visual architects Derivative and designer Ali Demirel.
