In September 1997, they released their debut single "Press A Key" after being approached by Wurlitzer Jukebox. Their breakthrough came when they were signed by Warp Records, leading to their contribution of "Plaything" to the compilation "WAP 100: We Are Reasonable People" and a live performance at John Peel's Meltdown festival. In September 1998, they released "Plock," their first single for Warp, which garnered significant critical acclaim. Plone is known for their collection of old drum machines, analogue synthesizers, and effects, drawing musical influence from imaginative and experimental sounds while maintaining a pop sensibility.
