**Bio: Pop Will Eat Itself** Formed in 1986 in Stourbridge, England, Pop Will Eat Itself (PWEI) originally started as Wild And Wandering, consisting of singer and guitarist Clint Mansell, guitarist and keyboardist Adam Mole, bassist Richard March, and drummer Graham Crabb. After a few months and one EP, they changed their name to PWEI and gained attention from the indie scene with their first EP, *The Poppies Say Grrr!*, released on Chapter 22. Their early sound featured short, fast, slightly psychedelic punk-pop tunes, which they continued to explore through three more EPs before incorporating house and hip hop beats on *Beaver Patrol*. In autumn 1987, PWEI released their debut album, *Box Frenzy*, which showcased a mix of new wave, hip hop, and acid house influences. The band introduced a drum machine called Dr. Nightmare, and Graham Crabb took on a second microphone. Following the 12" single *Def.Con.One*, PWEI signed with RCA and released *Can U Dig It?* in 1989, marking the beginning of a successful run with 12 singles reaching the UK top 40.
