Popular Tyre is a musical collaboration between London musicians Quinn Whalley and Patrick McCourt, formed after they met in New York and discovered a shared musical direction. The project blends their backgrounds in acid house, techno, and leftfield electronic music. Quinn began his journey in the music scene by DJing at early London acid-house events in 1988 and later released techno tracks with Justin Drake on labels such as Sabres Of Paradise and Club Craft. He went on to form Different Gear, achieving both mainstream and club success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Patrick entered the music scene around the same time, influenced by iconic events like Dance Wicked and Rage. As a producer, he has released music on labels such as Next Century, Toolroom, and CR2, and has performed as a DJ internationally. After returning to the UK, Quinn and Patrick decided to collaborate, resulting in Popular Tyre, which combines their varied influences into a loose blend of electronic, house, and off-kilter songwriting. They have performed alongside acts like Black Daniel and Quad Throw Salchow and have headlined the UK Anti-Folk Festival.
