Portray Heads is a synthpop, darkwave, and minimal wave band from Matsuyama City, Japan, formed in 1984 by Tohru Tomita, Mikiharu Doi, and Ayumi Tokunaga. They recorded several songs, with two released as a 7'' flexi single in May 1985. After the release, Ayumi Tokunaga left the band, prompting the search for a new vocalist. They found Yumi Ochi, whose powerful deep voice made her a perfect fit. The trio recorded a new release in April 1986, which was self-released as both a 7'' and a cassette in December 1986. However, the band faced challenges performing live due to the conservative music scene in their city, which ultimately led to their breakup.
