Power of Zeus was a US rock band formed in 1968 in Detroit, Michigan. The band was initially known as Gangrene and consisted of vocalist/guitarist Joe Periano, bassist/vocalist Bill Jones, drummer Bob Michalski, and organist Dennie Webber. They became the unofficial house band at the Wooden Nickel club, where they caught the attention of a local manager. After signing with Motown subsidiary Rare Earth, the band changed their name to Power of Zeus. They released their sole album, The Gospel According To Zeus, in 1970. Although it was a commercial failure at the time, the album has since gained a following among collectors and is highly sought after.
