Prana People is a 1970s soul group hailing from Harlem, New York, formed by the Aleem brothers, Tunde-Ra and Taharqa. Since the mid-60s, they have garnered Hall of Fame recognition as writers for notable tracks such as "Hooked on Your Love," "Confusion," and their iconic 1984 hit, "Release Yourself," which became an anthem at the Paradise Garage. This track was released on their independent label, NIA. The brothers collaborated with legendary artists including Bobby Womack, Sam Cook, Otis Redding, and their close friend Jimi Hendrix, with whom they established a publishing company. Hendrix contributed guitar leads for songs produced by the Aleem brothers for the Ghetto Fighter Album. In the early 90s, they worked with notable acts like Rick James, Kashif, and Wu-Tang Clan. Prana People released a self-titled album on Prelude, featuring a collection of cleverly written and produced disco, soul, and funk songs.
