Prince Buster, born on May 24, 1938, in Kingston, Jamaica, was a significant figure in the Jamaican music scene. He passed away on September 8, 2016, in Miami, Florida, USA. After following the original selecter The Great Sebastian, he was hired to assist on the Down Beat sound system, where he helped identify singles that rival producer Duke Reid was importing and contributed to the production of recordings. His first recording session in 1960 produced the track "Oh Carolina," featuring vocals by the and musical accompaniment from . Buster was known for his inventive and innovative approach, incorporating the niahbinghi element into popular Jamaican music. He later established his own Voice Of The People sound system, record label, and shop, first at 49 Charles Street and then permanently at 127 Orange Street. Inspired by his idol Muhammad Ali, Buster converted to Islam and took the name Mohamed Yusuf Ali. He was also an amateur boxer and had the opportunity to meet Cassius Clay in London, later receiving a Chevrolet Impala from him, a moment captured in a photo that appears on one of his albums. Throughout his career, Buster produced countless records featuring himself and many top acts of the time, backed by Prince Buster's All Stars.
