William Davenport, known by his stage name Problemist, is a musician and the founder of the magazine Problemist, established in 1980. The project was an ensemble of musicians centered around Davenport and released several recordings throughout the 1980s, also contributing to numerous compilations. Problemist was known for their enigmatic live performances, which were documented in the album "Problemist Live" (Cause and Effect, 1987). Key members of the band included Chris Rankin, David Lawrence, Mario Bajandas, and Adrian Gormley. After ceasing music production in 1990 to pursue a career in media, Davenport became a documentary filmmaker, disability rights activist, and teacher. He returned to music in the mid-2000s and continues to create music today.
