Purely Fizzycal is a British soul duo formed in the mid-1980s, consisting of a north Londoner and a south Londoner. They met while Ash was working at Rod Argent's keyboard shop and running the UK soul-focused zine Soul Trade. The two quickly began collaborating, with Ash handling programming and production. His inspiration stemmed from a blend of London pirate radio sounds and various US-based influences. Trisha's vocals and melodies were shaped by her upbringing, which included her parents' reggae records and her brother's taste for artists in the soul genre, along with a touch of Lovers Rock. Their distinct UK interpretation of soul is characterized by Ash's raw drum machine sounds. They released singles on their independent label and later on.
