Putney Dandridge was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, and vocalist, born on January 13, 1902, in Richmond, Virginia. He passed away on February 15, 1946, in Wall Township, New Jersey. In 1930, he served as the accompanist for tap dancer Bill "Bojangles" Robinson before forming his own band, which included guitarist Lonnie Johnson. Dandridge performed in some of the most important clubs in New York City and collaborated with major jazz artists of the period, such as Roy Eldridge, Teddy Wilson, Henry "Red" Allen, Buster Bailey, John Kirby, Chu Berry, and Cozy Cole, among others.
