**Q-Tip** Real Name: Kamaal Ibn John Fareed Born: April 10, 1970, in New York City, New York, USA Q-Tip is an American hip hop DJ, rapper/singer, producer, actor, and artist, originally from Queens, NYC. He changed his name from Jonathan Davis after converting to Islam in the mid-1990s. He is known for being a part of the critically acclaimed group A Tribe Called Quest before embarking on a solo career. With a father from Montserrat and a mother from Alabama, Q-Tip attended Murry Bergtraum High School in Manhattan. He got his nickname during childhood due to his skinny frame and big hair. Described by fellow member Jarobi as the "Leader" on A Tribe Called Quest's debut album, he is now recognized as a leader in the rap game. He played a significant role in pioneering a positive hip hop movement as part of the Native Tongues collective and has supported talented artists such as Consequence. Q-Tip has released two solo albums to date and reportedly has three unreleased albums—two with J Dilla and one titled "Abstractions" with The Abstract.
