Quantum Jump was formed by a producer and keyboard player who had been active in the early to mid-1970s. Prior to forming the band, he collaborated with regular studio session musicians, including a bassist/vocalist with whom he had worked on string arrangements since Hine's first solo album in 1971. After the disbandment of the 'Barracuda' line-up, the percussionist was rehearsing with a new line-up of Quantum Jump, which included musicians from various backgrounds, such as a guitarist who had worked with Tom Jones, a member of Caravan, a player from The Peddlars, and a musician from Kokomo. During this time, Kenny Everett’s TV show featured "The Lone Ranger" as its theme, leading to a hasty re-release of the song on June 2, 1979. It entered the charts, reaching no.5 and remaining for a total of 10 weeks. Eventually, the original Quantum Jump reformed, and the newly recruited musicians were no longer needed.
