Queen is a British rock band formed in London in 1970, originally known as Smile before adopting their new name later that year. The band welcomed their fourth and final bass player in March 1971. Over their career, Queen has achieved remarkable success, releasing 18 number-one albums, 18 number-one singles, and 10 number-one DVDs, with over 300 million albums sold worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists globally. They have received seven Ivor Novello awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. The band's lead singer, Freddie Mercury, passed away in November 1991 due to AIDS-related complications. In tribute to him, a concert was held on April 20, 1992, featuring the remaining members and various guest artists. Following Mercury's death, the band continued to perform under various "Queen+" incarnations, while John Deacon retired from the music business, expressing that it was impossible to replace Freddie and that there was no point in carrying on.
