R. Stevie Moore, born Robert Steven Moore on January 18, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, is an American musician known for pioneering lo-fi and DIY music. Often referred to as the "godfather of home recording," he is recognized as one of the most significant figures in the cassette underground. His influence is particularly notable among bedroom and hypnagogic pop artists in the post-millennium era. Since 1968, Moore has self-released approximately 400 albums, alongside about three dozen official albums, mostly compilations, issued on various labels. He announced his retirement from all musical activity and interviews on New Year's Eve 2019 through his website.
