Rachid Taha was an Algerian musician born on 18 September 1958 in Saint-Denis-du-Sig, Oran Province (present-day Sig, Mascara Province), Algeria. He grew up in the suburbs of Lyon, France, and was the founder of the pioneering French Arabic rock band. His father hailed from Béjaïa in the Kabyle area of Algeria, while his mother was from Mascara in eastern Algeria. Rachid Taha is known for inventing a unique style that blends Rock and Raï music. He passed away on 12 September 2018 in Les Lilas, Île-de-France, France.
