Racionais MC's is a prominent Brazilian rap and hip hop group that emerged in the outskirts of São Paulo in the 1980s. They are known for their political messages advocating for the marginalized populations in major Brazilian cities. The group made their first recording in 1988, featured in the compilation "Consciência Black." Their debut solo album, "Holocausto Urbano," was released two years later. However, it was the album "Sobrevivendo no Inferno" that brought them widespread fame, selling 1,500,000 copies. Racionais MC's has maintained a critical stance towards the media and the record industry, viewing them as part of the system they oppose. The group consists of members Mano Brown (Pedro Paulo Soares Pereira), Ice Blue (Paulo Eduardo Salvador), Edi Rock (Edivaldo Pereira Alves), and DJ KL Jay (Kleber Geraldo Lelis Simões).
