Raffaele Serra, born in 1948, is a composer and sound researcher residing between Milan and Paris. He has released over 50 albums and has composed music for theatre, dance, and multimedia works. Serra began his artistic journey in the late 60s at the Castello Sforzesco High School of Applied Art. In the early 70s, he started experimenting with electronic music using analog synthesizers, tapes, and other devices, while also working as a sound and light technician and assistant director for various avant-garde theatre companies. In the 80s, he attended the Electronic Music Class at CEDME, where he studied and collaborated with Christina Kubisch, and participated in stages with Brian Eno. He also worked with the Russolo-Pratella Foundation and contributed to the "De Natura Sonorum" Festival. His ongoing studies and musical research took him to Amsterdam, where he met researcher Walter Maioli at "Het einde van de wereld," a multimedia center led by electronic musician and anthropologist Fred Gales. Serra has created sound additions for Danish painter/sculptor Nes Lerpa's environmental exhibitions and composed soundtracks for several cult silent films. Since October 2000, he has been supported and represented by the ISISUF Foundation (International Institute of Futurist Studies) in Milan. In March 2017, his electronic "Stabat Mater" was included in the index of Stabat Mater compositions curated by the Stabat Mater Foundation.
