Rail Band de Bamako, also known as Super Rail Band, is a Malian band founded in 1970. Initially called Orchestre du Buffet de la gare de Bamako, the band played regularly at the train station in Bamako and played a significant role in the development of modern Mandingo music from Mali. In 1970, the group welcomed a new lead vocalist. The following year, a lead guitarist and Mory Kanté, who played the balafon and provided second vocals, joined the band. After Salif Keïta left in 1973 to join Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako, the new lead vocalist took over. In 1978, Tidiani Koné departed, and Djélimady Tounkara became the group's director. In 1979, the band was renamed Super Rail Band International, led by the new lead vocalist and Djélimady Tounkara.
