Real Name: Railroad Jerk Railroad Jerk was a celebrated industrial-folk, junkyard blues, rock band active in the 90s. Over a decade, they released four full-length LPs through the independent label Matador and toured globally. Their debut album, "Railroad Jerk," was released in 1990, followed by "Raise the Plow" in 1992, during which the quartet defined the blues-punk sound of the era. Although they did not achieve mainstream recognition like some of their contemporaries, Railroad Jerk was influential in shaping what became known as "alternative rock." With the release of "One Track Mind" in 1994, the band reached its peak success, featuring drummer Dave Varenka, guitarist Alec Stephen, bassist Tony Lee, and guitarist/vocalist Marcellus Hall. They toured extensively in America, Europe, and Japan, sharing stages with notable acts such as Guided by Voices, The Blues Explosion, Cibo Matto, Girls vs. Boys, and Cat Power. Their song "The Ballad of Railroad Jerk" became a college radio hit, and the "Rollerkoaster" video was featured on MTV's Beavis & Butthead. In 1997, they released "The Third Rail," but the pressures of nonstop touring began to take a toll.
