Raja Kirik is an Indonesian duo composed of Yennu Ariendra and J. Mo'ong Santoso Pribadi. They are radical artists who draw inspiration from Java's rich cultural traditions and its history of struggle against colonial oppression. Their music surprises, challenges, and educates, rooted in the sounds of shamanic trance dances, particularly the Jaranan, or Jathilan. This dance, originating from the 11th Century during the Hindu-Buddhist era, symbolizes how common people could overcome their rulers through evasion and agility.
