Ralph Carney (January 23, 1956 – December 17, 2017) was an American singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist born in Akron, Ohio. Known for his primary instruments, the saxophone and clarinet, Carney was also skilled in many unusual and obscure instruments. He began his career as a founding member of a band and had a long association with various artists, working as a session musician with numerous notable names. He was the uncle of several individuals and recently completed recording an album in Portland, Oregon with an improv quintet named THMPR. Carney passed away at the age of 61 in Portland, Oregon.
