Rammstein is a German rock band formed in 1994 in Berlin, consisting of six members: lead vocalist Till Lindemann, guitarists Richard Z. Kruspe and Paul H. Landers, bassist Oliver "Ollie" Riedel, drummer Christoph "Doom" Schneider, and keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz. The band's lineup has remained unchanged since its inception. Rammstein is known for being one of the founding bands of the Neue Deutsche Härte (NDH) subgenre, which emerged in the mid-1990s, blending industrial rock and groove metal. Their music is primarily in German, but they have also performed in various other languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Russian. The band is famous for its award-winning live performances, characterized by pyrotechnics and theatrical elements, and they refer to their style as Tanz Metal ("Dance Metal"). The name Rammstein has a controversial origin; it was inspired by "Rammstein Flugschau," a term written on a wall during a tour bus brainstorming session. This name references the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, which was the site of a tragic accident in 1988. Although they considered other names like Milch, Erde, and Mutter, Rammstein remained, and the band has since distanced itself from the origins of their name.
