Raphael Rogiński is a versatile guitarist, composer, performer, improviser, culture animator, and musicologist with a background in jazz and classical music, as well as musical theory and ethnomusicology. His artistic focus has been on improvisation rooted in blues, jazz, and ethnic folk music, which defines his unique style in both composition and performance. Deeply connected to Jewish culture, Rogiński leads two projects, Shofar and Cukunft, and serves as the art director for festivals that showcase new Jewish culture, such as Tikkun, Varshe, and Mizrach. He also has a strong connection to Israeli culture through his band Debka Rafiah, which performs early Israeli music. Rogiński draws inspiration from various musical sources, including primitive American music, blues, and 1960s rock. He founded the band Spinalonga, influenced by American experimental music, and established Ectoplasma to explore primitive swing, performing music from Raymond Scott and early Mississippi big bands. His band Wovoka emerged from early blues influences. His research into European early music led to the release of the album "Rogiński gra Bacha" (Rogiński Plays Bach), featuring Bach’s pieces played on prepared guitars. In addition to his bands, Rogiński is active in the international new jazz scene, creating compositions, improvisations, and interpretations that serve as soundtracks for various artistic events, including documentaries, animations, theater plays, and literature readings.
