Raphael Saadiq, born Charlie Ray Wiggins on May 14, 1966, in Oakland, California, is an American singer, bassist, songwriter, and record producer known for his work in the R&B and soul genres. He began playing music at the age of six and honed his skills in school and church during the 1970s and 1980s. In the mid-1980s, he formed a group with his brother and later enjoyed a successful solo career in the 1990s. Saadiq was also part of an R&B "supergroup" during their brief existence. He has collaborated with various artists, achieving critical acclaim, including winning the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for a specific track. His collaborations include work with numerous major label artists. In 2002, Saadiq established his own record label, which featured artists such as Joi and ex-member Rashon Graves. In 2007, he produced the entire third album of UK soul singer, who also featured on his fourth solo album, alongside other artists.
